Abstract

This study has been aimed to provide the basic data for the counseling of parents and health guidance of the pupil by understanding the current situations of child abuse and health status. 5 elementary school 4th, 5th, and 6th year pupils(516) had been the objects of this study. 31 questions of child abuse inventory used by Yon, Jin Young(1992)and 51 questions of health status reorganized to be appropriate at the level of child from Symptom Check List(SCL-90)and Cornell Medical Index(CMI) had been the study tool of measurement. Data analysis had been computerized by SPSS. And the results of the study are as the follow:
1) Current situations of child abuse
Light degree(M=1.63) physical abuse at home showed the highest followed by injury danger I(M=1.13), Injury danger 11(1.01), and injury danger 111(1.01). The case of being hit on the calf, arm and leg and hip showed the highest experience rate in physical abuse (75.6%), while the case of being threatened by knife and lethal weapon or being stabbed
occupied 0.60.8%. Mean point of verbal abuse was 1.17 and the words "I hate very sight of you"(33.3%) occupied the highest experience rate in verbal abuse.
2) Health status of the children
Mean point of psychological health status (M=1.39)showed higher than the mean point of physical health status(M=1.25). This means that psychological health status is not better than the physical health status. Respective mean point showed that the respiratory system (M=1.39) was the highest in physical health status, while an obsession and compulsion was the highest in psychological health status (M=1.65).
3) The relation between children abuse and health status(r=.589, p=.000) showed higher pure interrelation explaining that abuse of the child makes them affect much more to their health.
4) Child abuse and Health Status had been compared according to general specific characteristics.
(1) The result compared the child abuse
The mal0e in sex, 6th year in school year, the case that parents did the physical violence,the case that other family members did the physical violence by verbal, the case that father´s schooling is elementary course, the case that the residence status is in entertainment area or others and the case that relation between husband and wife is bad showed the higher in physical abuse. 4th year in school, the case that father, mother and other family member did the verbal abuse, the case that mother drinks everyday, the case that relation between husband and wife was bad and the case that residence environment was at entertainment area showed the high verbal abuse.
(2) The result compared the health status
The case that relation between husband and wife is bad, and the case that the residence status is bad showed the bad health status. The case that father and other family members did the verbal abuse violence, the case that father and mother act the language violence, the case that mother drinks everyday, the residence status is at entertainment area and other areas showed the bad psychological health conditions.
